Quick answer

What is motor vehicle accident counselling?

Motor vehicle accident counselling is trauma-focused therapy for drivers, passengers, cyclists and pedestrians affected by a collision. It treats anxiety, fear of driving, intrusive memories, low mood and sleep problems using evidence-based approaches such as trauma-focused CBT, gradual exposure to driving and EMDR. It can also help when emotional distress is slowing physical recovery or a return to work.

In Alberta, counselling after a collision may be covered by auto insurance accident benefits or extended health plans. Ask your insurer or adjuster what is approved before you start.
