No. You can book directly without a doctor’s referral. Some insurance plans ask for a referral before they reimburse counselling, so check your plan if you will be claiming.

Your counsellor explains consent and confidentiality, then asks about what brought you in, your background and your goals. You share only what you are ready to. Read more in what to expect in your first counselling session.

Individual, couples and family counselling sessions are typically 50 minutes. Assessments and some intake sessions may take longer, and we will let you know when booking.

We are open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Online booking is available 24/7 through Jane.

Our office is at 3818A 97 St NW #203, Edmonton, AB T6E 6N2, in South Edmonton. Online sessions are available anywhere in Alberta.

Fees, insurance and payment

Fees depend on the service and the length of the session. Current fees are shown when you book on Jane, or call us and we will confirm the cost before your appointment. Many extended health plans cover counselling with a Registered Social Worker or Registered Clinical Social Worker, up to an annual maximum. Check your plan’s list of eligible practitioners. Our guide Is counselling covered by insurance in Alberta? lists questions to ask your insurer.

Yes, for eligible clients. First Nations and Inuit clients with a status card who are approved under the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program receive counselling at no cost: we bill NIHB directly and charge no additional fee. Eligible refugees and refugee claimants with active Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) coverage can also receive counselling at no cost, billed directly to the program. See free counselling in Alberta.

Yes. If you have a low income, no insurance coverage or are facing financial hardship, we offer reduced fees on a sliding scale. Fees are set case by case in a short, confidential conversation. Call 587-372-3143 or email contact@disha.ca to ask. See affordable counselling in Edmonton.

We accept credit card, debit and e-transfer.

Payment is due at or before each session unless direct billing or other arrangements are in place. You will receive a receipt for your records or insurance claim.

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and missed appointments may be charged a fee, as outlined when you book.

About counselling

Counselling can help when stress, emotions, relationships or life changes feel hard to manage on your own. You do not need to be in crisis. Many people come for support with anxiety, low mood, conflict, grief or big decisions.

Yes. What you share is kept confidential, with a few legal exceptions your counsellor will explain, such as a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, concerns about a child’s safety, or a court order. See our privacy policy.

Counselling is provided by registered professionals. Mukesh Mishra, MSW, RCSW, is a Registered Clinical Social Worker, a Diplomate and Certified in CBT, and trained in EMDR, DBT and the Gottman Method. Meet the team on our therapists page.

A Registered Clinical Social Worker is a social worker on the Alberta College of Social Workers’ clinical registry, with advanced training and supervised experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy.

It depends on your goals. Some people come for a few sessions to work on a specific issue, while others benefit from longer-term support. Many structured approaches show noticeable change within 6 to 12 sessions.

Yes. Feeling comfortable with your counsellor matters. Let us know and we will help you find a better fit.

For many concerns, research shows online counselling can be as effective as in-person sessions. The best choice is the format you will attend consistently.

No. If you are in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 9-8-8 any time, or call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
