Quick answer

What is depression therapy?

Depression therapy is counselling that helps you understand and reduce symptoms of depression, such as persistent low mood, loss of interest and hopelessness. Approaches like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and behavioural activation help you change unhelpful thought patterns and gradually return to activities that give your life meaning and energy.

Depression is common and treatable. It is not a personal weakness, and it is not something you have to push through alone.

Signs you may be experiencing depression

Depression is more than a bad week. If several of these have been present most days for two weeks or more, it is worth reaching out.

Persistent low mood

Feeling sad, empty or numb most of the day, nearly every day.

Loss of interest

Hobbies, friends or activities you used to enjoy no longer feel worth the effort.

Changes in sleep or appetite

Sleeping much more or less than usual, or noticeable changes in appetite or weight.

Low energy

Everyday tasks feel exhausting, and getting started on anything is a struggle.

Harsh self-talk

Feelings of worthlessness, guilt or being a burden to others.

How we help

How we help with depression

We work at a pace that feels manageable, starting with what matters most to you. Therapy focuses on small, realistic changes that build momentum over time.

How sessions can look

Sessions are usually 50 to 60 minutes, in person at our South Edmonton office or online by secure video anywhere in Alberta.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you notice and question the negative thoughts that keep depression going, such as all-or-nothing thinking, and replace them with more balanced and helpful perspectives.

Behavioural activation

Depression makes us withdraw, which deepens low mood. Together we plan small, meaningful activities that gradually restore energy, routine and a sense of achievement.

DBT and acceptance-based skills

Skills for managing painful emotions, being kinder to yourself and acting on your values, even on difficult days.
