Quick answer

What is alcohol addiction counselling?

Alcohol addiction counselling is talk therapy for people who are concerned about their drinking, from heavy or binge drinking to alcohol use disorder. A therapist helps you explore why you drink, set realistic goals such as cutting back or stopping, manage cravings and triggers, and address the stress, anxiety, trauma or relationship problems that often sit underneath.

If you drink heavily every day, stopping suddenly can cause dangerous withdrawal. Talk to your doctor or call Health Link at 811 about safe, medically supported withdrawal before you stop.
