Quick answer

What is addiction recovery counselling?

Addiction recovery counselling is support for people who want to change their relationship with alcohol, drugs, gambling or other compulsive behaviours. A counsellor helps you explore your goals, understand triggers and the needs the addiction meets, and build skills to manage cravings, prevent relapse and repair relationships. Common approaches include motivational interviewing, CBT and relapse prevention planning.

Counselling is not a substitute for medical detox or emergency care. If you need help withdrawing from alcohol or certain drugs, please involve a physician, as withdrawal can be dangerous.
