Quick answer

What is ADHD therapy?

ADHD therapy is counselling that helps people with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder manage symptoms such as inattention, disorganization, impulsivity and emotional overwhelm. Approaches like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for ADHD focus on practical skills: planning, time management, routines, reducing procrastination and coping with frustration and low self-esteem.

Therapy does not diagnose ADHD on its own. A formal diagnosis and medication are provided by a physician, psychiatrist or psychologist. Therapy works well alongside medical care, or for people exploring whether ADHD may be a factor.
