Clinical Supervision for Social Workers

If you’re a social worker in Alberta pursuing clinical designation or completing your provisional hours, you’re in the right place. At Disha Counselling Centre, we offer clinical supervision for MSW graduates and Registered Social Worker (RSW) candidates, led by Mukesh Mishra, a Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW) with extensive experience in therapeutic practice and supervision.

Whether you’re seeking supervision for provisional registration, psychosocial intervention authorization, or RCSW designation, we provide structured, goal-oriented supervision—online or in person—throughout Alberta.

What Is Clinical Supervision for Social Workers?

Clinical supervision is a formal relationship between a qualified supervisor and a social worker seeking licensure, skill development, or clinical recognition. It allows you to reflect on your practice, enhance your clinical skills, meet ethical obligations, and ensure you are providing safe and competent care to clients.

In Alberta, clinical supervision is required for:

  • Completing the 1500-hour supervised practice for provisional RSWs

  • Gaining authorization for psychosocial intervention

  • Meeting the supervision hours needed for RCSW designation

Mukesh Mishra is eligible to act as a Supervisor of Record and can support your professional growth at all three levels of supervision. Contact us today for Clinical Supervision for MSW.

Supervision for Provisional Registration (RSW)

When you apply to the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to become a Registered Social Worker, you begin as a Provisionally Registered Social Worker. You must then complete 1500 hours of supervised practice to move to full registration.

Your MSW practicum hours may be credited toward this 1500-hour requirement if:

  • The practicum was supervised by a Registered Social Worker (RSW), and

  • The practicum was completed within five years of your RSW application

For any remaining hours, you must be supervised by an active RSW in good standing.

At Disha Counselling Centre, we provide structured supervision with documentation to help you meet ACSW standards, track your progress, and move confidently toward full registration.

Supervision for Psychosocial Intervention Authorization

In Alberta, psychosocial intervention is a restricted activity under Schedule 7.1 of the Government Organization Act (RSA 2000). This means only those who are authorized—and supervised by qualified professionals—can practice or teach it.

Psychosocial intervention involves treating substantial disorders of thought, mood, perception, or memory that significantly impair a person’s ability to function in daily life. get in touch with us for Clinical Supervision for MSW.

You may require psychosocial intervention supervision if you are:

  • Practicing psychotherapy or deep clinical work with clients who have significant mental health disorders

  • Providing trauma-focused care without current authorization

  • Training or supervising others in these interventions

Mukesh Mishra, RCSW, is authorized and qualified to supervise provisionally authorized social workers seeking this restricted practice certification. He ensures supervision is both clinically robust and meets all legal/ethical standards.

Supervision for RCSW Designation (Advanced Clinical Supervision)

Social workers seeking to become Registered Clinical Social Workers (RCSWs) through the ACSW must complete a combination of direct clinical practice hours and documented clinical supervision.

There are two main pathways:

Stream A – MSW within the past five years:
  • 1600 hours of direct clinical practice

  • 100 hours of clinical supervision by an RCSW or RCSW-S

Stream B – MSW held for over five years:
  • 3000 hours of direct clinical practice

  • 100 hours of clinical supervision by an advanced clinical practitioner (need not be an RCSW)

All applicants—regardless of stream—require a formal reference letter from an RCSW or RCSW-S to accompany their application.

At Disha Counselling Centre, Mukesh Mishra offers both structured supervision and reference support for Clinical Supervision for MSW for eligible applicants, helping them fulfill ACSW requirements with confidence.
